This Privacy Policy explains how HuKi processes personal data when you use the iOS and Android app. HuKi is a Hungarian hiking app that offers map views, place search, GPX import, and place history features.

1. Data controller

The data controller is Roland Mostoha, acting as an individual developer.

2. Scope of this policy

This policy applies to the processing of personal data in connection with the HuKi app. HuKi does not operate user accounts, does not require sign-in, does not sell personal data, and does not display in-app advertising.

HuKi does not track you across other apps or websites and does not use advertising identifiers (such as IDFA). HuKi does not display an App Tracking Transparency prompt and does not collect data for advertising or targeting purposes.

HuKi uses location data only while the app is actively in use. HuKi does not perform background location tracking.

3. What data HuKi may process

  • Location data: precise or approximate location data if you grant location permission.
  • Search queries: the text you enter when using online place search.
  • GPX files: GPX files you import and related metadata.
  • Place history: a local history of places you opened in the app.
  • Diagnostic and crash data: technical information related to crashes, errors, and app stability.
  • Analytics data: aggregated usage events and app interaction statistics.
  • Technical network and device data: IP address, installation identifiers, operating system, app version, and similar data when required by map, search, or diagnostics infrastructure.

4. Why HuKi uses data

  • to show your position on the map;
  • to improve nearby and relevant hiking destination suggestions;
  • to provide online place search and autocomplete results;
  • to render maps and route-related content;
  • to import, read, manage, and keep GPX files on your device;
  • to remember recent places and GPX history locally on the device;
  • to diagnose errors, improve app stability, and understand usage trends.

5. Legal bases

Where the GDPR applies, HuKi may process personal data on the following legal bases:

  • consent or operating system permission, especially for location access;
  • performance of the requested service, when HuKi provides features you actively use, such as maps, search, or GPX handling;
  • legitimate interests, for app security, reliability, debugging, and product improvement.

6. Location data

HuKi uses location data only while the app is open and actively used. Location access supports features such as showing your position on the map, ranking nearby hiking destinations more helpfully, and supporting search and map interactions.

HuKi does not use background location, and it does not continue tracking your movement after the app is closed.

You can revoke location permission at any time in iOS or Android system settings.

7. Data stored on your device

HuKi stores several types of data locally on your device:

  • GPX files: imported routes are copied into the app's own storage and remain there until you delete them.
  • GPX metadata: such as file name, last opened time, distance, and estimated travel time.
  • Place history: locally stored records of places you previously opened.
  • Settings: app preferences and configuration values.

HuKi primarily manages this data on-device. You can remove it from within the app where supported, by clearing app data, or by uninstalling the app, depending on the data type.

9. Retention

  • GPX files and related local metadata: remain on your device until you delete them.
  • Place history: remains on your device until app data is cleared or the feature later offers dedicated deletion controls.
  • Firebase Crashlytics data: according to Firebase's official privacy documentation, crash stack traces and related identifiers are generally retained for 90 days before removal begins from live and backup systems.
  • Analytics and other third-party data: are retained according to the provider's own retention settings and policies.

10. International transfers

Some third-party providers, especially international cloud and analytics providers, may process personal data outside Hungary or the European Economic Area. Where this happens, data is processed subject to the provider's applicable legal transfer mechanisms and safeguards.

11. Your rights

Depending on applicable law, you may have the right to:

  • request information about data processing;
  • request access to your personal data;
  • request correction or deletion where applicable;
  • object to certain processing;
  • request restriction of processing where legally available;
  • lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

12. How to manage or delete your data

  • revoke location permission in system settings;
  • delete imported GPX files from the app;
  • clear app data in your device settings;
  • uninstall the app from your device;
  • email HuKi about data processed by external services where applicable.

13. Children

HuKi is a general-audience app and is not specifically directed to children. HuKi does not knowingly seek to collect personal data from children.

14. Data security

HuKi applies reasonable technical and organizational measures intended to reduce the risk of unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or loss. However, no method of internet transmission or electronic storage can guarantee absolute security.

15. Changes to this policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time, for example when HuKi adds new features, new processors, or when legal requirements change. The current version will always be available on this page.
